How to Add Pages in Magento 2

A CMS page in Magento 2 is created by using text, images, blocks of content and other variables. It is fairly easy to manage pages in Magento 2 from the backend. This tutorial will go through the complete process of managing pages in Magento 2. Following are the topics we will cover in detail:


Adding a new page

To add a new page, follow the steps below:

  • Go to Content => Pages (under Elements)Pages submenu under Content
  • Click on Add New PageAdd New Page
  • You’ll be shown the following new page form where you can add details for the page:New Page Form
  • Let us go through each section in the New Page form in detail:
    • General Information:
      • Enable Page: Set this to “Yes” if you want this page to be visible on the frontend here.
      • Page Title: Set the title for your CMS page. This title will be used as page title, meta title tag and in breadcrumbs in your Magento 2 store.
    • Content:Content Section
      • Content Heading: Type in the storefront title of your CMS page here.
      • WYSIWYG Editor: Edit the content of your page using the what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor.
    • Search Engine Optimization:SEO
      • URL Key: Set the URL key for your page here. You can access the page appending this URL key to your website’s basic URL.
      • Meta Title: Set ‘Title’ meta tag for your page here.
      • Meta Keyword: Specify the keywords you want to be added to ‘Keywords’ meta tag here.
      • Meta Description: Set ‘Description’ meta tag for your page here.
    • Page in Websites:Page in Websites
      • Store View: Select the store view from where this page will be accessible.
    • Design:Design Section
      • Layout: Choose a layout from the drop down list. You can set the page layout to be blank or set it to have:
        • 1 Column
        • 2 Columns with Left Bar
        • 2 Columns with Right Bar
        • 3 Columns
      • Layout Update XML: If you have a custom XML configuration, you can add it here for the page layout.
    • Custom Design Update:Custom Design Update
      • From – To: Set the duration (select from and to dates) for when the custom design is to be applied.
      • New Theme: Select the theme which is to be applied during the set duration.
      • New Layout: Set page layout for the specified duration of the custom theme.

Once you’re done filling in the details for the new page, click on the Save Page button to save the page.Save New Page

Editing an existing page

To edit an existing page on your store, go to Content => Pages (under Elements)

Edit Page

In the Pages submenu, you’ll see a list of all your existing pages.

Select the page you want to edit and choose Edit from Action drop-down list.

You need to edit the same fields which we have discussed in Adding a New Page section above.


Deleting an existing page

To delete an existing page on your store, go to Content => Pages (under Elements)

Delete Page

In the Pages submenu, you’ll see a list of all your existing pages.

Select the page you want to delete and choose Delete from Action drop-down list.

Quick Tip 1: It is a best practice to Disable” a page instead of deleting it permanently.

Quick Tip 2: If you’re deleting a page which is indexed by Google, remember to put a proper Redirect in place.


Assigning a Home Page

If you’ve added a new page and you want to set it as your default home page, follow these steps:

  • Go to Stores => Configuration (under Settings)Configurations Submenu
  • Choose Web from the left sidebar, and click expand Default Pages section.Set New Home Page
  • Uncheck the “Use System Value” and select your new page from the CMS Home Page drop-down list.
  • Click Save Config to set your new page as the default Home Page of your website.
