How to Configure Shipping Settings in Magento 2

It goes without saying that shipping is one of the major parts of your ecommerce business – unless you sell virtual or downloadable products. Did you know that stores which offer a variety of shipping methods see more conversions?

Magento 2 allows you to offer your customers a number of shipping methods –

You can also set whether you want to ship to different addresses when fulfilling a single order.

Your shipping settings must include the source of all shipments (your warehouse maybe?) and your shipping policy. You must also specify your preference on how you want to handle order shipments to multiple addresses.

We have created a complete tutorial series on setting up shipping for your Magento 2 store.

This is the first part of the series where you’ll learn how to configure basic shipping settings.

Configuring Basic Shipping Settings

Step 1: Go to Stores => Configuration (under Settings)

Configuration Submenu in Stores

Step 2: Expand Sales tab from the left sidebar and click on Shipping Settings.

The Shipping Settings form page has 2 sections that you need to fill in – Origin and Shipping Policy Parameters.

Step 3: Uncheck the Use System Value box and fill in the forms with following details:

  • Origin – Specify what is the origin address of your shipments. This is necessary to calculate the shipping charges and determining tax rate to be applied to the order amount.
    • Country
    • Region/State
    • ZIP/Postal Code
    • City
    • Street Address
    • Street Address Line 2
  • Shipping Policy Parameters – This setting is to display your shipping policy during checkout.
    • Apply custom Shipping Policy: Set this to ‘Yes’ if you want to use a custom shipping policy. When you choose ‘Yes’, a new field appears as below:
      • Shipping Policy: Type in your custom shipping policy in this text box.Custom Shipping Policy

Step 4: Click on the Save Config button to save the shipping settings.

You’ll be prompted to refresh invalidated cache types through a system pop-up message.

Follow these steps from our tutorial on how to flush the cache.

This concludes our tutorial on configuring shipping settings in Magento 2. We’ll discuss how to set up free shipping in the next part of this tutorial series.
