How to Create Custom Order Status in Magento 2

There are multiple actions involved in order processing based on which the order status changes. We have covered this in how to track order article. Did you know that you can create your custom order status in Magento 2? In this article, we will guide you to create custom order status.


How to create new order status?


Go to Admin Panel => Stores => Order Status

Step 1: Click on Create New Status to add new status.

Step 2: Fill the details

  • Under the “Create New Order Status” section the first thing you’ll need to do is enter a Status code and Status Label.

    • A Status Code should contain both letters and numbers, and it’s required to start with letters. Also, use underscores are instead of spaces. It is just for internal reference.

    • A Status Label is visible on the front-end of your online store.

  • In case you have multiple stores, the Store View Specific Label section may come in handy, because it allows you to set different labels for each of your store views.

  • The last step is to click the Save Status button.

How to Assign Order Status to Particular State?

To assign Status to specific state,

Step 1: Go to Stores => Order Status => click on Apply Status to State

Step 2: In Assignment Information:

  • Order Status: Select custom status from Order Status Drop down.
  • Order State:  Select order state(Processing, Pending, etc.)
  • Use Order Status As Default: To choose status as default select this check box.
  • Visible on Storefront: To view this status on storefront select this check box.
  • Click on ‘Save Status Assignment’ to finish.

If you don’t want particular assignment you can un-assign it from order status grid.
